    Description

"Illinois Census Returns 1820" is a 466 page, 5.5"x8.75" hardcover edited by Margaret Cross Norton and published in 1969 by Genealogical Publishing Company (Baltimore). This is the 2nd edition - it first appeared in 1934 as Collections of the Illinois State Historical Library Volume XXVI, Statistical Series, Volume III.
From the preface: "This book contains not only the 1820 state census schedules but also notes comparing all discrepancies between the names as written in the 1818 territorial, the 1820 state, and the 1820 federal censuses."
The book is in good condition, with no dust jacket. The green cloth boards have sticker residue at the spine bottom, light rubbing and edge wear. There's a bookplate on the front pastedown. A marginal stain affects pages 117-124. The binding is firm.

William Wartenbe (1760/1764-1821) and Catherine White (b. 1761)  married before 1778 and settled in New Jersey. Later they went to Virginia and  Ohio. William was possibly a son of William Wartnaby (1667- 1733), an immigrant  from England to Philadelphia, but no definite proof has been located as yet.  Descendants and relatives lived in New Jersey, Virginia, West Virginia,  Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin and elsewhere. These descendants and  relatives are arranged in the text in alphabetical order by surname (and  chronologically under each surname). Includes indexes (listing Wartnaby,  Wartenby, Wartinbie, Whartenaby, Whartenby, Whartonby and other variant  spellings).
Includes Babayco (Babajko), Capp, Cotton, Denman, Everett, Ford,  Joslin, Leonhardt, Moffitt, Peverill, Scoville, Sidman, Wanamaker (Wannemacher)  and related families.
