Description
The Granville District of North Carolina 1748-1763. Abstracts of Land Grants Volume Oneby Margaret M Hofmann published 1986 reprinted 2009
This book is the first volume in a five volume series by noted authority on North Carolina's Colonial land records and genealogical author - Margaret M. Hofmann. Excellent introduction by George Stevenson. This volume is compiled from Granville Grants recorded in the Secretary of State record book conflated with whatever original papers remain for the grants. Counties included are:
Anson, Beaufort, Bertie, Bladen, Chowan, Cumberland, Currituck, Dobbs, and Edgecombe.
The Granville Proprietary which covers most of what is now the upper half of NC is unfortunately one of the least known eras in NC history. Its lands brought in people from outside NC and frequently sons of families already here took up lands as they married and settled down. Soft cover, perfect bound, 199 pages including a full name and place index.
This is a NEW book - it is NOT used.
