Compiled by Johannes T. Anderson
This lot comprises two copies, only one of which is completed, of "Anderson Family Record" (cover title), compiled by Johannes T. Anderson (New Sharon, Iowa), published by the author in 1946, 13" x 8.75" hardcovers (black cloth on boards with gilt lettering, post-and-screw binding). The descriptive text (only a few pages) is printed; the family records are hand-typed.
The family records are of the descendants of Ove Anderson, born in Sevede, Norway, in 1831, and his wives, Barbro Berkeland (1832-1861) and Aagaat Orton (1835-1904). Most of Anderson's 14 children were born in Roland, Iowa.
The book includes a short section in the back titled "About our trip, to Rainier National Park, in the summer of 1943" with a few pages of text and a few pages of photos.
The following describes the completed copy only: It has somewhere around 400 unnumbered pages and is illustrated with pasted-in photographs. The family records are interleaved with pages of actual photographs. It's hard to give an actual page count because the family records pages are printed on one side only and, while some have blank backs, the backs of many others have pasted-on photos that accompany the next family record. The photos appear to be a mix of originals and reproductions.
"The original book" is written in pencil on the first page.
The second copy includes the text and the family records but
does not have any photos.
Contents of both are in very good condition. The covers are fair to good with soiling, staining, and general wear. The back cover of the completed copy has a 2-inch-square chunk missing from the lower right corner (because these have post-and-screw bindings, it would be a simple matter to replace it with the back cover of the uncompleted copy).

I
ndexes to Irish Wills
is an alphabetical index of over 30,000 Diocesan wills proved in the Consistorial Courts of Ireland between 1536 and 1857. Arranged by Dioceses, and preceded by maps showing in which Dioceses the various Irish counties are situated, the
Indexes
provide the name of the testator, his parish, county, and the date of probate and are, in short, complete lists of Diocesan wills proved up until 1857, when the various ecclesiastical courts were abolished by Act of Parliament and superseded by the Probate Court.
Since the Public Record Office in Dublin was destroyed by fire in 1922, information furnished by this work is very often the only source for determining the social and financial status of an ancestor. These indexes also provide clues for checking land records for an estate partition and transfers of lease from testator to heir.
This volume is a perfect companion to Sir Arthur Vicars'
Index to the Prerogative Wills of Ireland, 1536-1810
.
